Whereas there are 21 initial consonant sounds. There are only eight final consonant sounds. This is due to the fact that there is no released sound at the end of the syllable. In producing the air stream, stopping the stream and releasing the air stream. In producing the final consonant sound the last step is omitted. Thus, many consonants with the same point of articulation end up sounding similar.
